As it is every year, the CIA is once again well represented among the nominees for 2012 James Beard Foundation Awards. Fourteen alumni are finalists for various book, broadcast media, restaurant, and chef awards. The Beard Foundation announced the nominees for this year’s awards—among the most prestigious in the food world—in late March.
Graduates among high-profile award nominees are Gary Danko ’77 for Outstanding Chef, Thomas McNaughton ’04 and Sue Zemanick ’01 for Rising Star Chef of the Year, Grant Achatz ’94 and Mark Liberman ’98 for Best New Restaurant, and Michael Mina ’89 for Outstanding Service.
Two grads—Achatz and Andrew Carmellini ’91—received a pair of nominations. Chef Achatz will also be inducted into Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America at the awards ceremony.
