How did you become interested in food?
I was pursuing a career as an actor in Los Angeles and working at a restaurant in a private club. Having always been interested in cooking, I made friends with the chef and he brought me in to work in the kitchen.
Who most influenced you?
I wasn’t satisfied with the movie industry, so I decided to pursue my other passion. I was working with a great chef who loved to teach and he started me on the path to the CIA.
Did you have to overcome any obstacles or challenges to come to the CIA?
It was difficult leaving Los Angeles where all of my friends and girlfriend lived, not to mention packing up and moving only two weeks before school started.
Do you already have a degree from another college or did you previously have a different career?
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts/Theatre from the University of Nevada, Reno.
Why did you choose the CIA?
The CIA is the best. I toured several other culinary schools and the CIA at Greystone was, by far, the most impressive!
What do you like best about CIA?
I would have to say the community. I have a strong relationship with my classmates and many members of other classes. The community at Greystone is small enough that it is easy to meet and interact with everyone, including the chef instructors and other members of the faculty.
Do you belong to any clubs or participate in any activities/sports on campus?
I participate in Yoga club regularly, and will be attending barbecue club meetings. I also have an interested in starting a juggling club.
What are your career goals/plans?
I am thinking of moving back to LA to work in catering on movie or television sets with a long term goal of owning my own catering business. In the short term, I would like to start working in a small restaurant with a focus on healthy, vegetable focused cuisine.
Any advice for prospective students?
Be ready to learn!!! There is so much information thrown at you in the first few months that it can be very overwhelming. It takes a lot of time and focus, but if you are willing to put in the effort and work together with your classmates, then the CIA is the best possible decision you could make.
