Andrew Weissman graduated from The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park in 1996 before finding himself back in his hometown of San Antonio, TX, where he opened the award-winning Le Rêve two years later. One of the city’s top culinary stars now has the new CIA San Antonio campus as a neighbor to two of his four restaurants.

Chef Weissman is a two-time nominee for the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: Southwest. During its 11-year run, Le Rêve was named Best Restaurant in Texas by both Gourmet and Texas Monthly magazines.

“For those of you wondering, ‘What now?’, I challenge you to write the greatest story of yourself. You may stumble along the way, but it is all part of the journey,” Weissman advised 47 recipients of associate degrees in culinary arts and baking and pastry arts. “Check to see if things are impossible only after you are done.”

Although Le Rêve is now closed, Chef Weissman is the chef and owner of Il Sogno, Sandbar Fish House & Market, Big’z Burger Joint, and Sip Coffee & Espresso Bar, all in San Antonio. Il Sogno and Sandbar are at Pearl Brewery, where the CIA has its campus. Il Sogno received many accolades as a best new restaurant in 2010, both in Texas and nationally.
